New era of Mobile advertising with gpsOne

Global positioning was a feature that many would have thought pertained to only the elite classes of mobile phones. But the truth of the matter is has now become a standard for everybody. New reulations launched by the FCC have made it compulsory for all mobile phone manufacturers to include a QUALCOMM gpsONE® chip in their cell phones. This is because, according to them, it reduces the risk in emergency situations if the police already knows where the victims are. But marketers have found a new use for it that can change the face of advertising in itself.

The GPS tracker chips broadcasts information on the location of each handset to the international mobile network. This information can be used to find the location of each user, and trigger ads on their phones once they enter a certain coordinate on the GPS grid. So if a person happens to be walking up to 15 feet from Starbucks, they’re phone will light up with “Today’s Special offers” for a latte and a cinn-a-bun for $2.49!
